Goodwill Peace and Protection Paintings

Cultural symbols for peace and protection are used, the hand and the eye. The Hand of God, "Mano Ponderosa" in Spanish, in Arabic the Hamesh hand, in Hebrew the Hamsa hand. It is the protecting hand. In southern Europe, North Africa and India the downward pointing eye in hand is used to avert the evil eye from those that mean harm.

The eye symbol is a figure in Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu societies. In Turkey it is common to give the "evil eye" glass bead as a gift.

The paintings below represent the loss of family and community due to a natural disaster they incorporate the use of these symbols. The title above links to pictures from the fundraiser as well as the trip to Galle, Sri Lanka where the Miami Tsunami Reconstruction Team (MTRT) travelled to help with the rebuilding for tsunami survivors.
